The 10k mile Mongol Rally & Other EV adventures
We caught up with Chris Ramsey from Plug in Adventures whilst he charged his car for a quick Q&A about ditching police escorts, route planning & the other Grand Canyon... Chris is best known for driving an electric car over the 10,000 miles of the intercontinental Mongol Rally from Europe to Siberia in 2017. Q: CHRIS - WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ELECTRIC CAR? A: My first EV was a 2014 Nissan Leaf Tekna. I still have it today. Although my wife nicked it for her work trips and I never got it back - she got rid of her Mini and I walked...
Branching out in a Nissan Leaf
EV Opinion’s Ryan Corbett tells SPARK+VOLT about his biggest EV inspirations, what will happen to Planet Earth and why filling stations should be a thing of the past . . . Hello to you Ryan! When did you get your first electric car? I bought a Nissan Leaf in the summer of 2015. My friend had an electric car and after seeing his, I organised a five day test drive with a Nissan Leaf. I liked it but my wife loved it. After a lot of number crunching we realised it would actually be cheaper to buy and run per...
UK couple are among first to complete Iceland 'Route One' ring road in electric car
A couple from Dorset are believed to be the first people from the UK to complete Iceland’s famous coastal ‘ring road’ in an electric car – and now hope other tourists will follow suit. It took just six days for Natalie and Rob Carswell of SPARK+VOLT: ELECTRIC ADVENTURE GEAR, based in Poole, to drive around the country’s popular ‘Route One’ in a Renault Zoe and a BMW i3. It is believed the pair are the first from the UK to complete the challenge since Iceland declared the ring road suitable for electric vehicles in March earlier this year. The Carswells were motivated...
SAVING THE WORLD - ONE ELECTRIC ADVENTURE AT A TIME
EV ambassador and electric adventure trailblazer Beth Lily catches up with SPARK+VOLT: ELECTRIC ADVENTURE GEAR for a quick Q+A about reindeer, greedy governments and saving the world. Q: Beth, you’ve done so much to promote EVs (electric vehicles) all over the world, when did you get your first electric car? A: In 2014 I became the proud owner of a BMWi3. Then in 2015, I began managing Formula Student, a fantastic competition where student engineers design, build, test, and race small-scale formula style racing cars. Interestingly, many students found electric batteries were a far more effective way of powering the...
Ellie's ebike adventures #1
I’m not a techno-geek by any stretch of the imagination – it’s taken me a year to learn how to use our Amazon Firestick, much to my husband’s merriment. I’m not fit either – busted knees for the past five years have rendered exercise – even swimming - uncomfortable at best and shockingly painful at worst. Imagine my family’s surprise therefore, when I announce I’m getting an ebike. Well, borrowing one anyway, to start with. It was going to happen sooner or later. Working at SPARK+VOLT headquarters is to be dunked daily in a vat of ragingly infectious enthusiasm for...
